Environmental and social obligation now sits inside the operating case for marine work rather than alongside it. Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI entered into force on 1 November 2022, with EEXI and CII requirements taking effect from 1 January 2023 and the first CII ratings issued from 2024. EEXI is a technical measure applying to existing ships above 400 gross tonnage; CII is an operational measure applying to ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above, which receive an annual A to E rating, with D and E performance requiring a documented corrective action plan.
Reporting obligations run in parallel and do not align neatly. The IMO Data Collection System covers all voyages of a ship of 5,000 gross tonnage and above, while the EU MRV regime covers voyages to and from EU ports regardless of flag and treats time at anchor and in port differently. We support baseline emissions inventory across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, EEXI verification, CII monitoring and rating forecasts, DCS and MRV data collection and verification, SEEMP preparation and review, and voyage and fuel efficiency assessment — together with ballast water and MARPOL compliance, waste and effluent management, crew welfare reporting and supply chain due diligence.
